Our Mission:

Merritting Attention is dedicated to providing quality academic and athletic enrichment programs that build character and empower youths to fulfill their innate ability to become positive and active leaders on the court, in the classroom and in their communities.

About Us:

Merritting Attention is a youth development organization that uses sports as a vehicle to connect with young people in order to teach the importance of education.

Founded in 1998 by Larry Merritt with the knowledge that young people, regardless of their ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, have the opportunity to be successful with the proper guidance and training. Merritting Attention encourages young people to become a student in the classroom first and a student of the game second.

Larry Merritt is a native of Boston, Massachusetts. He began playing basketball at a very young age at the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club in the South End of Boston. He went on to continue his love for sports at Cathedral High School where he played both football and basketball receiving All-Scholastic, Player of the Year, and Dream Team honors.

Merritt received a full-four year basketball scholarship and a B.S. in Business Administration from Merrimack College in 1996. While at Merrimack, he was selected Captain by his teammates for the 1995-1996 season. In his junior year, he was named the Lawrence Boys Club MVP by its club members and the Merrimack College Men's Basketball Team MVP and selected to the NCAA Division II New England All-Star Team in his senior year. In 1995, Merritt founded Brothers & Sisters United, the first multi-cultural student/staff organization on campus. The mission was to educate and build diversity on campus and to recruit and retain students and staff of color at Merrimack College.

Larry has received numerous community service awards such as: the Nelson Mandela Youth Award, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service Award, Malcolm X Community Service Award, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts State Senate Citation, Commonwealth of Massachusetts House of Representatives Citation and the City of Boston City Councilor's Citation for his tireless commitment to the young people in the City of Boston.
